Autistic children receiving rehabilitation subsidies
On Apr. 2, the World Autism Awareness Day, the Suzhou Municipal Charity Federation, Suzhou Disabled Persons’ Federation and China Construction Bank Suzhou Branch unveiled a financial aid program to assist families with autistic children. A total of 600,000 yuan has been pooled to offer rehabilitation subsidies to children with autism between 7 and 14 years old in Gusu District, Suzhou New District, Wuzhong District, Xiangcheng District and Suzhou Industrial Park.
Autistic children are called “children of the stars”. Autism is a complex development disorder which has its roots very early in a child’s development and continues throughout his/her lifetime. About 90% of victims are diagnosed with autism beyond the age of 2 and for 44.2% of them, the time span between being noticed something abnormal and getting a confirmed diagnosis is more than one year. Early diagnosis is beneficial in treating the symptoms of autism.
Statistics show that there are about 730 autistic children in Suzhou receiving rehabilitation training each year. The program, which is named “Lighting up the Stars”, is designed to help families with autistic children between 7 and 14 years old to cover part of the costs, giving each child a subsidy of 800 to 1,000 yuan per month.
