Suzhou musicians play in cloud concert hosted by Portugal
An extraordinary cloud concert was staged at Coimbra, an ancient city in Portugal, on September 13. A total of 73 harpists from around the world joined the concert through either video or on-site performance and presented a feast of music to the public.
Ye Fengfei (叶凤飞) and Zhang Ailin (章艾琳), both harp performers from Suzhou, played in the concert on invitation. Their music bridged the distance between Suzhou and Coimbra, and communicated our determination and power to jointly win against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The concert was initiated by the University of Coimbra, a time-honored Portuguese public university, in celebration of the 730th anniversary of its establishment.
During the concert, the artists from different countries played the classic Fado Coimbratogether to demonstrate the solidarity of the world’s peoples. The event was live broadcast by the Radio and Television of Portugal (RTP) and over 100,000 netizens watched the online concert.
Delfim Leão, Vice-Rector of the University of Coimbra, sent video greetings to Suzhou before the concert, expressing his heartfelt thanks and sincere wishes to the people of Suzhou and to its distinguished artists. This cloud concert will further deepen the mutual understanding between Suzhou and Coimbra and push forward the people-to-people and cultural communication between China and Portugal.

Suzhou and Coimbra have been proactively promoting friendly interaction in such fields as culture, education, traditional Chinese medicine, etc. in recent years. In October, 2019, the University of Coimbra signed a cooperation agreement with Soochow University on academic exchanges and mutual visits between teachers and students.
