Jiangsu-Fukuoka Friendship Cherry Blossoms Garden marks 25th anniversary
Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of Jiangsu People’s Congress, sent a letter of congratulations to the 25th anniversary of the Jiangsu-Fukuoka Friendship Cherry Blossoms Garden. A virtual celebration was held on April 20.
Lou said the garden has witnessed the friendly relations between the two regions and also played a positive role in deepening friendship between the two peoples in two countries. It’s expected that both sides will use the garden as a bridge to strengthen communication and cooperation, promote mutual benefit and win-win, and help build Sino-Japanese relations that meet the requirements of the new era.
Li Xiaomin, executive deputy director of the Standing Committee of Jiangsu People's Congress, said Jiangsu and Fukuoka have used the venue to promote people-to-people and regional exchanges. The two regions have overcome the COVID-19 disruption to celebrate the anniversary, which showed the common wish for a stronger friendship. Efforts will be made to improve ties, strengthen exchanges, enhance understanding and deepen cooperation.
Lyu Guijun, Chinese Consul General in Fukuoka, said that Jiangsu People's Congress and Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly have played a pivotal role in boosting friendship and exchanges at the regional level in the two countries. China and Japan will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations next year, and Jiangsu and Fukuoka will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of their friendship. It’s expected that the two regions will seize the opportunity to promote exchanges and cooperation in various fields to a new level.
The event also featured a video showing a real-life view of the cherry blossoms garden, reviewed the commemorative events since its opening, and shared the best wishes and messages.
Jiangsu and Fukuoka signed a sisterhood agreement in 1992. The Standing Committee of Jiangsu People's Congress and Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly have established regular exchanges. The two regions have carried out exchanges in many fields, such as environment, culture, education and youth with fruitful results.
