On June 20, a ceremony was held at the Suzhou Public Culture Center to mark the opening of the 34th Suzhou Science Popularization Week, which is part of the 2022 National Science and Technology Week.

A total of more than 500 activities are being held online and offline during the week this year across the city, focusing on a variety of topics such as disaster prevention and mitigation, hazardous chemical safety, food safety, network security, information security, carbon emission reduction, aerospace science and technology, marine science and technology, and technology-empowered Olympics.

Founded in 2001, the National Science and Technology Week is China’s annual celebration of science and technology and features a great number of science events around the country, which attracts a wide audience from children to adults, and science amateurs to professionals. It provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Chinese scientists to the world of knowledge and also aims to encourage an interest in science pursuits among the general public, and to encourage younger people to be fascinated by the world we live in.
