Dog days to end with short-term downpour on its way
Suzhou officially entered the last period of sanfu, also called China''s "dog days of summer" yesterday. The city had issued the red heatwave alert for six consecutive days as of August 15. The hot weather is expected to continue this week, with the highest temperature hitting 40 degrees Celsius between August 19 and 22.
The good news is things may start to cool down tomorrow. The high is expected to be around 35 degrees, and there will be scattered thundershowers from tonight to tomorrow and on August 21 accompanied by strong convective weather such as short-term downpours and strong gales. Please stay alert and take precautions.
Suzhou provides an array of seasonal delicacies in summer. You can find lotus seed heads and flowers, bitter melons, grapes, peaches, pears and other fresh fruit on Pishi Street. The gorgon fruit, water caltrops, cakes and pastries sold at Fengmen Wet Market are also worth tasting.
