Besides the city proper, the Suzhou city governs five county-level cities and more than ten center towns.

The total length of roads reaches 12.296 km, of which 535 km is expressway.

The urban per capita public green area is 15 sq.m., and the forest coverage rate on land of the whole city has reached 23.7%.

There are 109 berths for vessels with the tonnage of over 10 thousand tons in PORT OF SUZHOU.


The city’s bus routes reach 5,656 km in the total length. 539 million person-timers took the bus in 2010. 90% of the household sewage is subjected to integrated processing. 100% of the urban households are using gas for cooking and heating.

Environment Protection

The comprehensive environmental quality index has reached 92. The number of days with air quality recorded above good grade has reached 329 days. 100% of centralized drinking water sources meet the national quality requirements.

Suzhou has been prized the country’s “Pilot City of Sustainable Development”. The five county-level cities all developed into the national ecological city. The provincial eco-villages are up to 482, accounting for 41.3% of all the administrative villages.


Suzhou will develop into a model for scientific development, a pioneer for opening and innovation as well as a demonstration area for urban-rural integration. It will also become a high-end industrial city featured by modern economy, the best livable city with beautiful ecological environment and a cultural tourist city integrating historical culture and modern civilization.
