The Suzhou Chinese Orchestra presented a Chinese folk music concert at Lucerne Culture and Convention Center, Switzerland on Jan 26.
Lucerne Culture and Convention Center, located beside Lake Lucerne, is regarded as a top-class music hall which is a hot spot for music stars, fans, festivals and orchestras.
As the sixth show of the orchestra's tour in Europe, the concert drew more than 1,200 Swiss music lovers, artists of Lucerne Symphony Orchestra as well as government officials from both countries.
The concert, presented by over 90 young performers, highlighted the integration of Chinese traditional music and Western orchestral music. It lasted two hours and 35 minutes, a record duration for one of the orchestra's shows during the tour. The audience was deeply impressed with the young orchestra's vigor and dedication. After the performance, the orchestra received a standing ovation.
"I have been in love with Chinese culture since I was a child and the concert has brought Chinese music culture closer to me," said a 91-year-old spectator from Switzerland.
The concert also won acclaim from the members of Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, as the chief violin player said that she was impressed by the orchestra's close teamwork and virtuosity.
After the concert, Chu Kaimin, deputy consul-general of Chinese Consulate in Zurich of Switzerland noted that he was glad to watch such a brilliant Chinese music show in Switzerland. The year 2019 marked the 69th year of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland and the concert signaled a cementing of China-Switzerland cultural exchanges.
